Lakota Circle is a Chicago-based charitable organization dedicated to assisting the Lakota people on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota gain access to education, housing, health and economic solutions that reflect their deep cultural and spiritual roots.
Since 2006, our initiatives such as athletic funding, winter heating and housing assistance, clothing and toy drives for Christmas have proved successful. Our goal is to continue expanding the scope and scale of these programs to reach more people in the region.
Snapshot of our Successes:
- Helped fund the trucking costs of over 20 trailer homes for families on the reservation from 2006-2011
- Delivered 2,500 pounds of canned goods to Kyle, South Dakota in Winters 2010-2014
- Helped fund counseling services for students at Little Wound School
- Designed and donated 50 sweatshirts for youth participants of the 2012 Big Foot Memorial Ride (also known as Oomaka Tokatakiy or Future Generations Ride)
- Raised $ 8,000 to purchase weight lifting equipment for the Little Wound High School athletic program in 2011
- Donated baseball equipment to the after-school little league program in Kyle, which contributed to the formation of 4 new teams in 2010
- Donated $6,000 worth of volleyball equipment to the Little Wound High School girl’s volleyball team, including new uniforms, nets and balls in 2008
- Funded supplies for Pow Wow costumes and travel costs for multiple families
